Born in Ankara, visual artist and documentary director Eser Nisan Yağmur discovered her passion for photography in early childhood. Her formal foundation began with mandatory photography coursework during her Archaeology degree and was subsequently deepened through advanced photography training in Turkey. During her second university year, while completing an internship in London, she attended a three-month photography programme and was selected for the London Photographic Society group exhibition at the prestigious Barbican Centre.
Following graduation, Yağmur worked as a reporter at the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) News Department in Ankara. During this period, she engaged deeply with news-documentary photography and took part in an international group exhibition organized by Amnesty International in Australia. Relocating permanently to London in 1993, she earned her Master's degree in Cinema and Documentary at Goldsmiths, University of London. Throughout her postgraduate studies, she participated in experimental photography workshops across Italy, Germany, Scotland, and the UK.
Having taken part in numerous distinguished group exhibitions worldwide, Yağmur has mounted three solo exhibitions, two of which were held in London. A member of AFSAD, the Royal Photographic Society, and the London Photographic Society, her photographic works have been featured in internationally acclaimed publications including National Geographic, TimeOut London, and Rolling Stone.
For over a decade, her column in the London-based Avrupa Newspaper championed street art and independent creators through criticism and photo-documentation, playing a vital role in their international recognition. In Turkey, her essays in Fotoğrafya and Kontras explored digital art practices. As one of Turkey's pioneering digital artists, she presented her digital artworks at the TÜYAP Art Fair in 2009.
Living and working in London today as a documentary director and visual artist, Eser Nisan Yağmur actively continues her creative explorations across street art, fine art photography, digital art, and documentary photography.
